A trailer to promote the launch of Miriam Farid’s autobiography, Torn Between Two Cultures. The film, narrated by excerpts from the book itself, visualises three key stages of Miriam’s turbulent younger life. In order to achieve the specific look we were reaching for, a technique called “lens bashing”/”lens whacking” was used, whereby the lens is slowly removed from the camera body during filming. This shifts the focus and allows light to spill onto the sensor from behind the lens, rather than through it, giving an ethereal, dreamlike effect.
